Qualification of applicants
- At least 18 years of age or the minimum of 15 years for applicant who applies for temporary motorcycle driving licence, engine capacity under 90 cc..
- Have knowledge and ability to drive.
- Have knowledge on traffic law under Motor Vehicle Act and Land Traffic Act.
- Not being a handicap with lacking of driving ability.
- Have no harmful disease or illness that medical doctor declares dangerous for driving.
- Not be insane.
- Have no driving licence of the same type.
- Application time must not fall during the period of driving licence seized or cancelled.
Required documents
- Identification card or other card that can be substituted for ID card or alien book with copy.
- A certificate of residence in Thailand with copy.
- Medical certificate showing no harmful disease that can be dangerous for driving.
- 2 "3x4 cm." photos (not over 6 months)
Required documents for foreigner to apply for Thai driving licence
- Passport (Non-immigrant visa) with copy.
- Certificate of residence in Thailand issued by the embassy or government agency.
- Medical certificate showing no harmful disease that can be dangerous for driving.
- 2 "3x4 cm." photos (not over 6 months).
If the applicants have the following driving licences which are issued by foreign government,
they should bring with them (for exemption of written and practical tests)
- A valid driving licence of the same type as the licence being requested (with Thai or English translation
certified by the embassy)
- A valid international driving licence.
Procedure
- Accept application form.
- Check required documents.
- Examine qualification of applicant and conduct the following tests:
- colour blind eyes test.
- written test.
- driving test according to the type of licence requested.
- Collect fee
- Provide driving licence to have correct information for submitting to the registrar to sign.
- Dispurse driving licence.

International driving licence
The procedure of certifying international driving licence under the Convention on Road Traffic (Geneva 1949)
for driving in Thailand is as follows:
Required documents
- International driving licence under the Convention on Road Traffic 1949.
- Passport with copy.
- Temporary entry document under Immigration Law with copy.
- Transfer Authority (incase of letting a proxy to proceed the matter).
- Identification card or other card substituted for ID card of Transferee authority.
Procedure
- Accept request form.
- Check required documents.
- Collect fee.
- Prepare the certified document for submitting to the registrar to sign.
- Dispurse the certified licence.
Remark Licence certificate must be certified only the duration of living permission in the
kingdom but not more than the valid date of driving licence.
